How to choose a BJJ seminar

Topic and session level

Pick a topic that matches the problems you run into in your own training. Check whether the session requires knowledge of the basics and whether the organizer offers technique variations for people with different experience.

Instructor and format

Besides the instructor's name, compare the session length, Gi or No-Gi format and the plan for the day. A seminar may include a technical part, situational drills, questions and sparring. The scope should be clear from the organizer's description.

Registration, price and cancellation

Confirm how to register, the spot limit and what the fee covers. Organizers may use different price tiers and rules for refunds or ticket transfers. Check them before paying, especially when travelling requires extra bookings.

Frequently asked questions

Are BJJ seminars suitable for beginners?

Some seminars are open to all levels, others require knowledge of the basics. Check the description and, if in doubt, ask the organizer whether the material will suit your stage.

Do I have to belong to the organizer's club?

It depends on the organizer. Many events are open to all clubs, but do not assume this without confirmation. Check the rules or contact the club handling registration.

What should I bring to a seminar?

Bring gear that matches the session format, a mouthguard, flip-flops and water. For a longer session, a spare rashguard will come in handy.

Does the seminar include sparring?

Not every one does. Sparring, open mat or situational drills should be listed in the schedule. If the plan is not published, ask the organizer about the format and expected intensity.

Can I cancel and get my money back?

The organizer sets the refund rules. Before buying, check the free cancellation deadline, whether you can pass your spot to someone else and what happens if the event is cancelled.
